WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

This three day course offers a fantastic opportunity to expand on your wine knowledge for those wishing to start a career in wine or hospitality.

About the course

This structured and informative course explores the major grape varieties and important regions that define the world’s key wines. You’ll learn about production, key labelling terminology and major classifications to help you identify wines with confidence. A basic introduction to the main spirits categories is also provided as an online video segment and in-class revision exercise. Successful students will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

  3. The key white and black grape varieties and their characteristics
  4. The important wine-producing regions of the world in which these grapes are grown
  5. The production of sparkling, sweet and fortified wines
  6. Label terminology
  7. Tutored tastings of 48 wines
  8. How to describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
  9. How to make food and wine pairings
  10. The principal categories of spirits and liqueurs, and how they are made

How much does it cost?

The course costs £300 which includes all study materials, wine and spirit samples, tuition, use of ISO tasting glasses, examination and postage. Study materials are issued at the start of the course.


The exam takes place in the last session of the course. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be completed in one hour. To pass you must correctly answer 55% of the questions. This qualification is Ofqual regulated.

Additional Information

No prior knowledge is required. Students completely new to wine and spirits study may wish to complete the Level 1 Award in Wines first. However, this is not essential. You will be expected to read the provided text book prior to commencing the course. You can read more about the Level 2 qualification on the WSET website.
