Tomatin 18 Year Old
Finished in Oloroso sherry butts for eighteen months, this is a mellow, full bodied Tomatin with rich dried fruit flavours and a subtle chocolate edge.
At one time Tomatin was Scotland's biggest malt distillery, with twenty three stills pumping out enormous quantities of whisky destined for blending. Two changes of ownership and three decades later production is less than a quarter of peak output, and there is a much greater focus on the single malt itself.
The Eighteen Year Old, introduced to the market in 2006, is matured in refill ex bourbon casks before being finished for eighteen months in European oak Oloroso sherry butts. The result is a mellow, complex whisky where the sweet fruit of the spirit, the vanilla and spice of the bourbon casks, and the dried fruit and nut notes from the sherry casks all merge into a satisfying, rounded, intriguing whole.
