G&M Rare Old Glenesk 1980 46%
An extremely rare whisky, from the long silent Glenesk distillery, which was closed in 1985 and demolished in 1996.
This whisky was distilled in 1980 and bottled in 2014. Outturn was 551 bottles.
The bottler's tasting note: Delicate sherry influences with stewed apple and pear aromas. An underlying hint of menthol lingers. The palate is sweet with tangerine and strawberry flavours, complemented by a creamy milk chocolate edge.
Glenesk is one of the many distilleries which are now silent forever. In its time it went by several names; Highland Esk, North Esk, Montrose, Esk, Hillside, and Glenesk.
