Single Islay malt from Dewar Rattray (from a mystery distillery). A great whisky, at a great price.
Where previously Cask Islay was a blended malt whisky, from January 2014 it has become a single malt. It offers the classic Islay profile at a very keen price.
Like a fresh sea breeze, the nose is salty and citric (think lime or grapefruit), with a big whack of Coal Tar Soap.
The palate is slightly oily, with flavours of charred wood, citrus, sea air and syrup, and braced with the fire of youth.
