Edition 14.2 of Bruichladdich's super heavily peated Octomore single malt, matured in a combination of Italian wine and Spanish sherry casks.
Like Edition 14.1, Octomore 14.2 is peated to 128.9 PPM. It was also made with 100% Scottish mainland grown Concerto barley and aged entirely on Islay for 5 years. Distilled in 2017 from the 2016 barley harvest, and released in 2023. Where it differs dramatically from Edition 14.1 is that it was matured in Oloroso sherry and Amarone wine casks and then brought together in French oak.
The cask make up was: first fill Oloroso hogsheads (40%), first fill Amarone casks (16%), second fill Amarone casks (44%).
Bruichladdich's tasting notes: "Octomore’s signature peak smoke notoriously pairs well with Oloroso sherry casks, with the influence of the wood adding a robust, savoury flavour to the final spirit. The oak from the Amarone casks also has a significant impact on the spirit, imparting rich, red fruit notes - giving structure and cohesion to the 14.2."
