The first of Lochlea's four seasonal small batch releases for 2023, matured entirely in first fill Bourbon barrels.
Lochlea is an independent, family owned distillery in Ayrshire. As a working farm they grow their own barley, as well as distilling and maturing on site.
This is the first of their four seasonal small batch releases for 2023, each of which tie in with what is happening on the farm at that time of year.
Sowing Edition (Second Crop) is matured entirely in first fill ex-Bourbon barrels which were picked from higher up in the warehouse than those for 2022's First Crop expression. The additional heat, faster maturation and extra age of the spirit combine to give a clear progression from last year.
Lochlea's tasting notes: "This whisky opens up with enticing juicy Lochlea fruit. Sweet red apple and ripe pear are then followed by vanilla pods and almond oil. The finish is medium length, with a crips, refreshing pine forest note."
Natural colour. Non chill filtered.
