The Good Spirits Co. Glenturret (Ruadh Maor) 2013 9 Year Old 57.1%

A Good Spirits Co. exclusive single cask bottling released on 1st June 2023 to celebrate our 12th birthday! This Ruadh Maor (peated single malt from the Glenturret Distillery) was distilled in 2013 and aged for over 9 years in a single sherry hogshead.

Our nine year old peated Glenturret is a fascinating dram which takes water very well, revealing an array of flavours

Initially the nose gives up sherry oak and a slightly medicinal smokiness. Underneath that there's fruit - dried dates and figs, shading into dark pipe tobacco. With water the fruitiness increases, and we see a lovely sweet cream sherry note. Adding still more water teases out vanilla notes and brings out an earthy aspect of the peat smoke.

There is a real sweetness to the initial taste, a mouthcoating impression of smoky sherry trifle. There is a lovely evolution through the midpalate to a drying, oaky finish. Adding water emphasises the spicy aspects of the oak, and the smoke seems a little funky. Another dash of water reveals hints of marzipan, biscuity malt, and more grassy peat smoke. 

This is a complex, multi-faceted malt which reveals a different aspect every time you take a sip.
