The nose offers sweet gingerbread, malt, and a following wisp of coal smoke. The palate is rounded and rich, with plenty of warm spices underpinned by smoke.
Nikka has two distilleries. Yoichi is the northernmost Japanese distillery, on the island of Hokkaido. It was established by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934 after he parted company with Suntory. Miyagikyo was built on Honshu (the Japanese mainland), in 1969.
