Lochlea Ploughing Edition - Second Crop

£51.50

A gently smoky, peat influenced expression from the Lochlea distillery in Ayrshire, matured entirely in ex-Islay barrels.

Quantity

This is the fourth of their Second Crop of seasonal releases, all of which showcase a different expression of their single malt, influenced by the season and the activities on the farm at that time of year. Winter is when the fields are ploughed, in preparation for sowing the barley in the spring.

The main difference between this Second Crop of the Ploughing Edition and last year's First Crop is the focus on solely 200 litre barrels, and further ageing in the distillery's own on-site warehouse.

The independent, family-owned Lochlea distillery grows its own barley, and distils and matures its spirit on site.

Lochlea's tasting notes: "This whisky starts with fresh green apple on the nose, then come those inviting trademark Lochlea cereal notes. The palate offers more succulent fruit alongside fresh cut summer hay. The finish shows savoury hints of sea salt and lingering peaty embers."

Natural colour. Non chill filtered.
